National Hurricane Preparedness Week 2020 : Develop an Evacuation Plan

Monday, May 4, 2020 - 7:41pm

As we continue Hurricane Preparedness Week here at Rowan County Weather let's take a look at todays topic. Develop an Evacuation Plan.

The first thing you need to do is find out if you live in a hurricane evacuation zone.  If you do, now is the time to begin planning where you would go and how you would get there. You do not need to travel hundreds of miles, but have multiple options. Your destination could be a friend or relative who doesn’t live in an evacuation zone.  If you live in a well-built home outside the evacuation zone, your safest place may be to remain home.  Be sure to account for your pets in your plan.

While we are not in a Hurricane Evacuation Zone here in Rowan County. It is important to know this Information should you be on vacation at the beach and need to know where to go. The North Carolina Department od Public Safety is a great resource with Hurricane Evacuation Maps to help you know where to go. Visit their site by clicking here.

Should a Hurricane threaten the North Carolina Coast this season and you have loved ones that live in these areas. Invite them to come stay with you for a few days to allow the storm to pass.
